He has taught in New York City, Berlin, San Francisco and Munich. Steve began at ISR as MYP Coordinator and History teacher in 2003. From 2008 until 2022 his role has been IB Diploma Coordinator. Steve has also taught History, Science and Drama in the MYP, Music in the Kindergarten, as well as, History and Theory of Knowledge (ToK) in the Diploma Programme. As of the school year 2022-2023 he has taken on the role of Head of Operations at ISR. Prior to gaining his qualified teacher status, in the 1980s, he worked at book stores, in the advertising industry and on Wall Street. During his free time, Steve loves to play his guitar. |

Marion is a keen practitioner with a strong and up-to-date professional development portfolio to achieve the best for both the school and her students. In her spare time, Marion enjoys being with her daughter and husband. She likes travelling, walking, swimming and reading novels. |

Then, she moved to Kazakhstan where she worked in an international school in Almaty as Chemistry Teacher and CAS Coordinator. After 10 years of experience in teaching and coordinating CAS, she earned her IBEN Workshop Leader certificate to be able to share her expertise with other teachers from all around the world. Prior to University, he worked in several small businesses as a manager. During his teaching career, he has taught Science at all secondary levels, ICT at GCSE and A-level, Physics at DP level, Business Management for IB DP, Mathematics and Mathematical Studies at DP, and Design and Drama in the MYP. Additionally, he has held Head of ICT, Head of Science and Head of Boarding positions at various schools around the world, as well as managing the ICT network in three different schools. He is also responsible for writing the timetable at ISR. |

Language, Literature, Humanities, University of Birmingham, UK PGCE, University of Gloucestershire, UK | After a degree that allowed her to pursue her twin passions of literature and languages, Vicki Hayward qualified as a teacher in 1997. She spent the first half of her teaching career in the UK, and then, wanting to teach internationally, in 2010 she moved to Switzerland where she very quickly developed a huge admiration for the IB system. Throughout her career she has taught English and French (and sometimes other subjects) in various curriculums, and had a number of leadership roles. During her free time, she loves to read and learn languages. Other forms of happiness for her are exploring the beautiful cities of Europe, and also going to rock concerts and the opera. |

Since 2022 Liliia Roman teaches Ukrainian language and literature, as well as theory of knowledge for students in grades 10-12. She is happy she joined ISR team and believes that the IB programme is a programme in which students have a great opportunity to acquire in-depth knowledge and the necessary skills to become successful people, citizens of the world who care about people and the environment. In her free time, she loves being with her family and finds pleasure in drawing, reading, translating poems, dancing and listening to various music. |

After graduating with a BMus, she changed her career and while completing her PGCE, accepted her first official language teaching post in 2000. In her long-standing teaching career, Cornelia specialized in teaching German as a first language but has always continued to work as a foreign language specialist. Before joining ISR in 2018, she worked at two reputable British boarding schools, specializing in the delivery of IBDP German A, as well as teaching Theory of Knowledge (ToK) and supervising numerous Extended Essays. In addition, she has been an active examiner for the IB for ten years. Besides reading, hiking and travelling, Cornelia enjoys playing tennis and since 2016 has been holding a license as a professional racket stringer. |

Johanna Lodge (Grade 5 Homeroom) | MSc in Educational Science and Technology and Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) | Mrs Lodge graduated from the University of Twente in the Netherlands with a Master’s degree in 1994 and started her career as a specialist in corporate education in Germany, the Netherlands and the UK. After completing her PGCE at Canterbury Christ Church University in the UK in 2014, Mrs Lodge taught the Primary curriculum in Kent (UK) before joining ISR in 2023. Shannon O’Shea | B.A. Early Childhood Education and Care, Mary Immaculate College (IRE) | Shannon O'Shea has a wide range of experience with Montessori, Aistear, Siolta and Special Educational Needs Education in Ireland. In 2018 she began her international teaching journey beginning in Muscat, Oman in the Middle East then moved on to Doha, Qatar and finally, in 2024 she began the new year in ISR Switzerland. Early Years Education is her passion and she loves creating an environment where young minds prosper and independence thrives. In her free time, she Ioves paddle boarding, kayaking, scuba diving and being out in nature. |
Verena Potschka (German, German B, French, Kindergarten, PYP, MYP) | 2nd state examination for grammar school teachers of English and French (linguistics, literature, pedagogics) | Verena Potschka earned her qualifications to be a secondary school language teacher in 2010, graduating from the University of Würzburg, Germany, and in 2012 after her two-year teacher training (“Referendariat”) in Augsburg, Germany. After moving to Switzerland, she taught German to language acquisition and language & literature classes from grade 1 to 12 at the Collège du Léman in Geneva and the International School of Zug and Luzern. During her teaching time in Geneva, Mrs Potschka also held roles as a Boarding Academic Tutor and Head of the German Department. She is experienced in teaching German in the IB programme, as well as the Swiss Maturité exams and the French Baccalauréat. Mrs Potschka joined ISR in 2021. |

As well as her role as the Grade 5/6 Classroom Teacher, Savannah is the Seesaw Ambassador and will start her role as Programme Coordinator of the International Award starting the 2021 school year. When she is not teaching, you can find Savannah playing beach volleyball, reading, travelling, hiking or spending time with her dog. |

This inspired her to study Psychology - to gain a deeper understanding of the human mind and behaviour and to use this knowledge to connect with others in a meaningful way. After her apprenticeships in the industrial sector, educational institution and a mental health clinic, she realized that she will be of most help in the school setting. Hence after finishing her Bachelor's Degree, she started her counselling career as a volunteer high school counsellor in a charity school in the Philippines. This is where she received her initial practice in counselling youth who were in poverty and calamity-stricken areas. After a year, she was offered a job to work as a high school guidance counsellor at the University of Santo Tomas, one of the leading and largest universities in Manila for six years. Alongside this, she continued her post-graduate studies and pedagogy in counselling and teaching. Furthermore, she also was an active leader of a national organization that facilitated leadership and well-being training for youth and educators. Mrs Giannotti joined ISR in 2008 as the school's pastoral and academic counsellor. In the following year, she started working as the school's learning support teacher as well. Presently, Kharla leads the Learning Support Team which supports students in the areas of Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND), English as an Additional Language (EAL), Most Able (MA) and Third Culture Kids. She also works closely with the MYP and DP students as a university and career advisor. Throughout the years, she received in-depth training and workshops in providing academic, emotional, behavioural and psychological support to students in need in an international setting. Kharla develops and delivers the PSHE curriculum throughout the school to address topics related to academic achievement, career planning, mental health, safeguarding and well-being. She also leads the implementation of the Read, Write Inc Program. Teaching students how to read is one of her joys. She treasures being a mother and a wife. She loves travelling, being in the ocean, dancing, cooking and spending time with friends and family. She is always on the lookout for delicious food and believes that laughter is the best medicine. Laura Manzano | BA (ed) Primary Education, specializing in special education needs, University of Barcelona | Throughout her career, Ms Manzano has worked in various schools in Spain and Switzerland with different educational contexts, which has allowed her to enrich herself with the diversity that each educational institution offers. In 2022-23, she worked as a classroom assistant at a school in St. Gallen, providing support to students with special educational needs. One of her favourite aspects of her job is designing educational resources that help or facilitate students' learning process. Outside of educational institutions, she has been advising and providing support to families with children on the autism spectrum disorder. In her free time, she likes to do sports such as swimming and playing volleyball, but also enjoys a good book! |
Paul Steele (English as an Additional Language (EAL), Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)) | MYP, DP. BA Hons English Language & Literature University of Sunderland (UK), Karl von Ossietzky University, Oldenburg (GER) | After graduating, Paul worked both as a youth social worker and class assistant at a Special Needs school locally, before travelling to Ukraine to gain experience teaching English. This started a travel bug, which he supported with various jobs over the next few years. He later gained employment as a 1-on-1 support in the National Children's Home in Bolton, UK, a residential home for children with special educational needs. Due to the closure of the school, he left the UK to start a new life in Austria, qualifying as an EAL teacher. In his free time, he loves to be outside in the mountains and is a great football and athletics fan. |
Sharon Tourish (Teacher Assistant – PYP and MYP) | BSc (Hons) Social Science and Health, Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh MSc, Health Promotion, University of Ulster, Northern Ireland | Prior to moving to Switzerland Sharon worked in research roles, focusing mainly on parenting, parenting programmes and childhood development at Queen’s University Belfast and the Open University, Milton Keynes. She started teaching English to children after moving to Switzerland and then completed the Cambridge Certificate (CELTA) in teaching English to students of other languages in 2018. Subsequently, Mrs Jones worked as a specialist rehabilitation coordinator and care manager for a large health insurance company in Lausanne for 5 years. During that time, she completed a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Safety and Quality of Care. In 2021 Mrs Jones moved to Buchs, SG and worked as a nurse in Schiers hospital, Canton Graubünden (CH) in endoscopy and medical diagnosis. In the autumn of 2022, she joined ISR as the school nurse. |

| After completing his apprenticeship in business administration, René Sprecher studied business administration at the Graubünden University of Applied Sciences in Chur (CH), where he completed his Master's degree in 2014. During his studies, he began to work at GRITEC AG, where he continued to work for over 14 years and held several positions during that time. In his free time, he is a passionate tuba player in the Brass Band Jenaz. |
Franziska Winkler (Finance & HR Assistance) | BA in Multilingual Communication, Zurich University of Applied Sciences ZHAW Office clerk | After completing her apprenticeship with a vocational baccalaureate, Franziska worked for 6 years in her training company as a payroll clerk. She then began studying languages at the ZHAW and worked as a project manager in the translation industry for 11 years, the last 6 of which she did part-time while being the mother of two children. Since 1 June 2024 she has returned to her roots in the financial sector as a Finance & HR Assistant at ISR. In her free time, Franziska enjoys spending time with her family in Grabs, singing, cycling or inline skating when the weather is nice, and baking in the kitchen when it's raining. |
Louise Steele (Library) | B.A.(Hons) Politics, Philosophy and Economics, University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK Post Graduate Certificate of Education, University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK | After several years of primary teaching in Norfolk and London, Louise relocated to the Rheintal to teach English as an Additional Language (ASL) to children and adults in Switzerland. In 2008, Louise joined ISR as a primary homeroom teacher and has since worked with students from kindergarten to grade 12 in various capacities such as homeroom teacher, mentor, EAL teacher, event planning and most recently, librarian. Louise loves the variety her role affords her, especially the opportunity to support reading and research skills for all students across all subject areas. |
Our Board
As a non-profit organization, ISR is governed by an honorary board that consists of experts of different fields. They appoint and empower the Director and are responsible for the strategic development of the school, its policies and financial objectives.
