International School Rheintal (ISR) proudly announces that Kharla Giannotti, Learning Support Coordinator and Guidance Counsellor, has been awarded the International Forum for Inclusive Practitioners (IFIP) Global Inclusion Award last week. Presented during a special ceremony in London, this prestigious award celebrates her exceptional dedication to fostering inclusive practices that promote social-emotional development, positive mental health, and student well-being.
Celebrating an Inspirational Leader in Inclusion
The IFIP described Kharla as 'an inspiration to others', highlighting her innovative approaches to building a culture of inclusion at ISR. Through her tireless efforts, Mrs. Gianotti has ensured that every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to thrive.
A Culture of Inclusion at ISR
Reflecting on her work and this recognition, Mrs Gianotti highlighted the collective commitment at ISR to cultivating inclusivity:
'International School Rheintal has been considered a safe haven for students in the region. Inclusion is not only a work of one department or a program, it is a culture that is being cultivated continuously at ISR. Though the learning support team leads on this, inclusion is embedded in everything that we do as a school. From the board members to the leadership team to all the staff members working with the students, we all have a common mission and vision of providing high-quality education to all the students that are in our care. We are all a team working together.'
The Work of the Learning Support Team
In her entry for the Global Inclusion Awards, Mrs. Gianotti highlighted as well the initiatives led by ISR’s Learning Support Team, which focuses on SEND (Special Education Needs and Disability), EAL (English as an Additional Language), Guidance and Counseling, Academic Counseling, and PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic education) lessons.
She explained: 'Together, we advocate for students and encourage them to advocate for themselves. Our efforts include addressing safeguarding, mental health, and well-being in PSHE lessons, participating in initiatives like Anti-Bullying Week and Mental Health Awareness Week, and providing resources such as a calm room and onsite nurse. Even small actions, like morning greetings from staff, contribute to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment.'
An Achievement That Reflects ISR’s Values
ISR extends its heartfelt congratulations to Kharla Giannotti on receiving this prestigious honor. Her dedication reflects the school’s mission of creating a supportive and inclusive community, where every student feels safe and empowered to succeed.
